Official text
'Do not edit your templates in Excel as this will automatically save the dates in an incorrect format. Use Notepad or your security-approved text editor for any manual edits.' (CBI guide 3.4). 'date format shows incorrectly if you open files with Excel' (CBI guide 8).
What triggers it
Excel re-saves yyyy-mm-dd as dd/mm/yyyy (locale) and strips leading zeros/quotes, converting LEIs that look numeric to scientific notation and dropping the 'eba_' codes' formatting; results in 330, xbrlce:invalidPeriodRepresentation, 807.
How to fix it
Treat CSVs as text; if Excel is unavoidable, import with text columns and export via a script.
